The Photography Department emboldens students for a future in lens-based media with a mastery of analog and digital techniques and a deep conceptual understanding of the medium鈥檚 past, present, and future. The department is committed to being a center for critical thinking, active learning, and aesthetic development. It prepares students for a broad range of professional photographic and motion practices for a rapidly changing, but image-dominated world. Graduates are ready to聽be visual leaders, pursue advanced degrees, and responsibly assume their role as skilled photographers and artists.

The Photography Department will be an inclusive environment for innovative image-makers who push the technical and conceptual boundaries of lens-based practices. It will provide a globally aware and engaged education that prepares makers for the potentialities of our ever-evolving world of still and moving pictures.

Upon graduation, students in the BFA Photography program will be able to:

1. Communicate effectively through lens-based media and innovate in their own visual style as demonstrated through a range of output methods.
2. Possess a critical understanding of photography鈥檚 historical and contemporary trends through visual, written, and oral means, and incorporate this knowledge into their own practice.
3. Make work that reflects and responds to culture and society from their position as ethically responsible artists.
4. Demonstrate proficiency and creative problem solving in historical and contemporary image making systems, software and tools, with the flexibility and independence needed to adapt to the ever-evolving platforms and processes by which images are made and delivered.
5. Exhibit leadership in their field and foster an ethical approach to image-making through a shared commitment towards equitable representation in the arts and visual culture.

Our 黑料专区 fashion department mission is to train students for national and international success in all aspects of fashion. By combining the fundamentals of construction with the exuberance of conceptual thinking, our students will find their own pathway and methods to unlock their full potential. Through exploring the thinking, designing and making with a fundamental understanding of themselves, as well as the community they desire to address, our new era of thinkers are encouraged to excel within the fashion industry and beyond.

Our Vision is local turning global. In a world where location can be the make or break of a young creative we see the need for a haven in the most unlikely place.

Detroit with its rich history is and will be the perfect location for it. Promoting talent that sees Detroit as their home is a big part of this vision. We want to teach our students that they matter, their communities matter and that a move to a 鈥渂etter鈥� location does not always equal success. The students鈥� success is dependent on their work attitude and their belief they can do it, no matter where they are.

We want the Fashion Department to become one of the strongest fashion programs in the country, a program that students want to be part of and create a new legacy not only for them but also for the city of Detroit.

We want to make the city competitive as well, not only on the education side but also for the commercial side. Having talent graduating from our program and making Detroit their homebase will help to rejuvenate the local industry, we promote healthy competition and collaboration. Creating a whole new industry for 黑料专区 and the city to then venture into the national and international market promoting the 鈥淒etroit Renaissance鈥�.

Students completing the Fashion Design program at 黑料专区 will be able to:

1. Design collections by using various manual and digital drawing techniques; illustrate innovative production-ready design packages.

2. Construct designs by using professional, state-of-the-art technology, while translating two-dimensional design into three-dimensional items.

3. Apply trend research and analysis to innovative fashion design in response to the needs of the consumer and to evolving socio-cultural and global opportunities.

4. Collaborate in multidisciplinary project teams and articulate ideas and design concepts verbally and visually to any given audience.

5. Identify supply chain and fashion business elements, including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability principles.

The Film Department takes a holistic approach to education with equal emphasis on the personal, intellectual, technical, and aesthetic development of its students, emboldening them as independent thinkers, makers, media artists, and industry professionals. The Department provides historical and contemporary context as it develops practical skills and conceptual strengths, producing active contributors who forge聽new聽territory in our diverse, mediated cultural landscape.

The Film Department will be a cross-disciplinary center聽for聽innovative experiential learning in fiction, non-fiction, and experimental moving image works. It will offer students a rich foundation in the technical and theoretical aspects of the social practice of filmmaking, and the space to develop their visual lexicon as engaged artists and makers in the global economy of images.

Students completing the Film program at 黑料专区 will be able to:

1. Tell compelling, diverse stories that engage, challenge, and resonate with viewers.
2. Communicate via clear and effective writing, innovative sound design, and purposeful moving images.
3. Conceptualize real world and fantastic scenarios grounded in lived experience, ethical research methods, and relentless imagination.
4. Demonstrate high-level performance thinking utilizing design principles, technical skills, and mindful perseverance.
5. Collaborate with a global network of filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals with respect, equity, and business acumen.

Interdisciplinary Art + Design aims to foster neo-traditional students determined to forge their own creative futures. It provides skilled foundations, dynamic mentoring, visual and critical studies, and a flexible structure to explore a diversity of media in collaboration with the college at large. The聽program聽promotes cultural diversity, sustainability, social responsibility, and advocacy.

Interdisciplinary Art + Design will be an incubator聽for聽thinkers and makers who will investigate and redefine the boundaries of contemporary art and design beyond disciplinary perspectives and practices. It will prepare students to become working artists, designers, educators, advocates, and thought leaders.

Students completing the Interdisciplinary Art + Design program at 黑料专区 will be able to:

1. Use a broad range of media, skills, experience, and knowledge to influence culture and society as ethically engaged artists.
2. Apply a variety of research and analysis strategies toward innovative interdisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and post-disciplinary solutions.
3. Articulate concepts and ideas via persuasive verbal, visual, and written communication.
4. Exercise creative problem-solving abilities utilizing a variety of media and principles.
5. Demonstrate the ability to create work based on an informed social, historical and cultural context.
