Northrup is a multimedia artist, writer, curator, and educator who has exhibited with museums, galleries, film and design festivals, and alternative spaces in North America, Italy, and Finland. He joined the College in 2006 as an adjunct professor of Entertainment Arts and took a lead role in evaluating and shaping curricula. He accepted a full-time teaching position with the college in 2009 and was advanced in rank to Associate Professor and Director of Digital Filmmaking in 2019. He teaches courses in narrative, documentary, and experimental filmmaking, as well as socially conscious interdisciplinary studios.

A maker-researcher and designer, Ian has worked in both practice and academia for more than 30 years.聽He started his career as a designer and maker of furniture, and developed an interest in sustainable design in the late 1990s. He has published numerous papers on sustainability, creativity, and design education, and while in Detroit has been involved in the curation of several exhibitions on the role of creative practice in addressing climate change.聽Ian has undertaken numerous commissions and exhibited work across the UK (including at London Design Week and the Lighthouse in Glasgow), China and the US. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh: his thesis explored making as knowledge.聽聽Having lived and worked in Edinburgh, Scotland, for almost 20 years, he relocated to Detroit in 2019.

Michigan native David Gazdowicz is an independent animator, filmmaker, audio producer, game/interaction designer and college professor. David has collaborated with countless artists, animators and filmmakers to create one of a kind sound tracks and imagery for a wide variety of projects. His animation work focuses on the humorous and often absurd side of life, while creating engaging narratives and colorful characters. His interaction design tends to focus on the nostalgia of growing up in the 80鈥檚 listening to Lionel Richie on cassette tape and playing arcade games at the local party story. David creates quirky works of art that he hopes will capture the viewer鈥檚 heart and mind.  

Aki Choklat brings a wealth of experience in both industry and education to lead 黑料专区鈥檚 Fashion Accessories Design program. He has held numerous positions with top-tier, international fashion labels, such as designing a capsule footwear collection for London-based menswear Diverso and consulted with numerous brands, such as Finnish footwear heritage brand Lahtiset. In addition, he directs his own London-based label of shoes, handbags and accessories, including the first bag collection to allow wireless communication between the bag and smartphones via a Near Field Communication microscopic tag. He helped establish and lead the footwear and accessories master program at Polimoda, Italy鈥檚 leading fashion school with Ferruccio Ferragamo at the helm, and has taught at the London College of Fashion and De Montfort University. Choklat is also a celebrated author of many design books, one of which 鈥� 鈥淔ootwear Design鈥� 鈥� is considered the authority on shoe design.

Karen McGarry is an artist educator and works as a teacher educator, guiding preservice art teachers into professional educator roles through visual art education certification. Her work as a K12 art educator and higher education teacher educator began in 2009, working in California, New York, Ohio, and now Michigan. McGarry has contributed scholarship presentations at state and national conferences for art education and graduated from the NAEA鈥檚 School for Art Leaders in 2025. She serves as the Visual Art Section Editor for the International Journal of Education and the Arts, volunteering her service and expanding scholarship engagement. She employs Arts-Based Research practices to guide her work, continually developing her A-R-T-identity: Artist-Researcher-Teacher. Service-learning and social justice practices ground her work as a Teacher Educator, emphasizing equity, diversity, inclusion, access, and belonging while preparing and mentoring tomorrow鈥檚 art educators as they build their own informed, professional A-R-T-identities.  

Automotive designer and alumnus (鈥�87 Transportation Design) Paul Snyder鈥檚 experience spans four continents and encompasses both exterior and interior development for a number of automotive brands, including Ford, Lincoln, Renault, Honda and Acura. For Ford Motor Company, he designed exterior and interior solutions for the Taurus/Sable and Explorer production vehicles and later oversaw projects for the Taurus X, Ford Five Hundred, Ranger, and Flex production vehicles. Prior to joining 黑料专区, Snyder worked at Honda Research and Development in California where he was Assistant Chief Designer, overseeing production and concept projects for the Civic, Accord, Crosstour, Odyssey, Tokyo Motor Show EV-Ster Concept and Honda AC-X Concept theme vehicles, as well as a 2013 Acura RL vision theme. Before joining the 黑料专区, she spent two decades working in the fashion industry and academia in New York, San Francisco, Qatar, and Indonesia.
