Graduation and Commencement Information

2026/ Summer graduation applicants

NOTE: Summer graduates are welcome to participate in the Fall (December) Commencement and should plan to order regalia in the Fall. Graduation Application

To be eligible to graduate, students must complete a graduation application through the Registrar鈥檚 Office prior to the deadline to be confirmed for degree/program completion and/or to participate in Commencement ceremonies. Check the 聽for the published deadline for the semester of intended graduation.

The graduation application fee is $50.00 (for both Undergraduate and Graduate students).

Ceremony Begins: 3:30 p.m. (estimated 3 hour ceremony)

Graduates are to arrive at 1:30 p.m. for rehearsal.

Graduates are asked to stay for the entire ceremony.
Tickets will be required for all guests age three and over.

Parking at or near venue is available. Guests should anticipate paying for parking. Carpooling is encouraged.

Diplomas

For May graduates,聽each graduate is presented with a diploma cover during the Commencement ceremony to mark the occasion. Diplomas will be available for pick up in person in the Yamasaki Building on the Ford campus. If not picked up they will be mailed within six weeks after the Commencement ceremony to the address provided on the graduation application.

For December graduates,聽each graduate is presented with a diploma cover during the Commencement ceremony to mark the occasion. The official diploma will be mailed to the address provided on the graduation application in late January.

Diplomas will not be released to students with account holds (see notifications in Self-Service.)

2026 Winter graduation applicants: Website is open January 6, 2026 to April 15, 2026. NOTE: The regalia vendor requests orders be placed before March 31, which allows two-week shipping; starting April 1 shipping times may extend up to 30 days from the date of order. 黑料专区 and the vendor are not responsible for regalia not received in time for the ceremony.

 

Recycling Your Regalia (Cap & Gown)

Share it with a friend who will be graduating or consider recycling your regalia. Put regalia in a bag noted 鈥淩egalia Donation. Attn: Student Affairs鈥 and drop off to any 黑料专区 Campus Security location, Department Program Manager or Campus Office.

The 黑料专区 has partnered with GreenWeaver庐 regalia for this year鈥檚 graduation ceremony. This line of graduation wear is made of fabric created entirely from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles.

Return policy: You may return your souvenir regalia unopened within 30 days and the vendor, OakHall LLC, will gladly refund the purchase price less shipping. All returned items must be unopened and in their original packaging.

Shipping policy: Orders placed before the website ordering deadline date typically ship within two weeks; orders placed after the deadline date shipping time may extend up to 30 days from the date of order.

Tickets

Each graduate will receive 6 tickets for their guests.

Graduating students will not need a ticket for the ceremony. Please plan to distribute tickets to guests ahead of time; graduates will not be able to meet guests at the entrance to give them tickets. There is also no will-call option.

Tickets will be available for pick up in April from the Student Affairs office. Office hours: Monday – Friday, 9:00 am- 4:00 pm, or email [email protected] to coordinate pick up. If there are any extra tickets, an email will be sent to all graduating students and will be made available 1 week prior to the ceremony. Students wanting more than 6 tickets will need to coordinate with their fellow graduating classmates.

Reception

For May graduates, a reception offering a preview of the Student Exhibition will take place following the ceremony. Graduates are welcome to bring their Commencement guests to the campus for a reception and Exhibition preview. Tickets are not required for the reception. Reception hours: 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.; light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

For December graduates, a reception will take place following the ceremony at the venue. Tickets are not required for the reception.

Accessibility and First Aid

Graduates with Wheelchair and Mobility Limitations

If a graduate has a mobility impairment (wheelchair, crutches, etc.) or is hearing impaired, please notify the Student Affairs Office during business hours, 9 a.m. 鈥 4 p.m., at 313.664.7879 or [email protected].

Guests with Wheelchair and Mobility-Limitations

黑料专区 and the venue hosting Commencement do not provide wheelchairs for guests. Guests with mobility limitations or who have difficulty walking are encouraged to bring their own wheelchair.

Guests arriving in a wheelchair should ask a venue usher for assistance to the designated seating area. Every effort will be made to try and seat guests together; however, accessible seating is limited and, due to space constraints, an escort may not be able to accompany the guest to the special seating area.

Guests are welcome to live stream using their personal devices.

First Aid

First aid is available during all ceremonies. Please contact a staff member and/ or venue usher if assistance is needed.

Diploma Frames, Class Rings, Alumni Spirit Wear

Visit the (via the School Spirit tab) or in person, to purchase diploma frames, class rings and alumni merchandise.

黑料专区 Bookstore is located in the Taubman Center (TC) (460 W Baltimore, Detroit, MI 48202) 313.664.1160. Visit the 黑料专区 Bookstore website for hours. Street parking or the 黑料专区 parking structure is located across the street from the TC.

The 黑料专区 Bookstore is open to the public.
